한미 의회 의장단이 ‘외교로 비핵화’의 공동성명을 냈고, 펠로시 미 하원의장은 한국 국회에 ‘IPEF의 경제 강한 유대‘를 요구했다.
한미 의장간의 공동 보도문은 “국제 협력과 외교적 대화를 통해 실질적인 비핵화와 평화 정착을 위한 양국 정부의 노력을 적극 지원하겠다”고 3일 밝혔다.
낸시 펠로시 미 하원의장은 이날 보도자료에서 “바이든 행정부가 중국에 대항하기 위해 시작한 경제 구역 이니셔티인 인도 태평양 경제프레임워크(IPEF)를 언급하고 안보와 경제 등의 분야에서 더 강한 유대 관계 호소했다. 김정은은 북한의 핵 문제도 논의했다”고 밝혔다.
한국 대통령실의 전화 통화 발표에 대해 요미우리는 “펠로시는 '개방적이고 자유로운 인도-태평양' 질서를 만들기 위해 한미 간 협력을 촉구했다. 펠로시의 대만이나 중국 방문에 대한 언급은 없었다”로 보도했다.
김태효 외교안보1차장은 이날 전화통화에 대해 “(펠로시 의장이) 배석자 한 사람 한 사람을 소개하며 윤 대통령과 하원의원 간 1 대 1 현안별 토론이 이뤄졌다. 외교 국방 기술협력 여성 청년 기후변화 등 꽤 구체적인 얘기를 나눴다”고 전했다.
‘40분간 펠로시 의장과 통화’에 대해 김 차장은 “그레고리 믹스 미국 하원 외교위원회 위원장 등 5명의 의원이 동석한 ‘1+5 회담’ 형식이었다”고 밝혔다.
전화통화는 대통령실이 먼저 요청했고, 민주당의 펠로시 의장이 의원단 5명 전원과의 통화 방식을 채택해 ‘회담’이 아닌 ‘인사’로 전환했다.
미 공화당의 상원 군사위 간사가 3일 한국의 폴란드 무기 수출 계약에 대해 ‘민주주주의 무기고 재건’으로 밝혔다.
제임스 인호프 공화당 상원의원(상원 군사위 간사)은 한국 폴란드 무기 계약에 “아시아와 유럽의 동맹들이 방위력 강화 위해 협력하고 있어 고무적”이라며 “중국과 러시아가 더욱 가까워지고 있는 가운데 우리는 아시아와 유럽 두 지역의 주요 안보 파트너들 전반에 걸쳐 '민주주의 무기고(arsenal of democracy)' 재건할 수 있도록 더 많은 일을 할 수 있고, 또 그렇게 해야만 한다”고 트위터에서 밝혔다.
폴란드 국방부장은 2일 한국과 대량 무기 계약에 대해 “한국과의 협력이 폴란드 군의 빈틈을 메우는 수준이 아니라 전략적인 접근법(I underline that our cooperation with Korea is strategic. This is not filling the gaps we have in our armed forces. This is a strategic approach)이라 논평했다고 미국의소리(VOA)가 보도했다.
과거 북한과 동맹국이던 폴란드는 나토회원국이 됐고, 지난 2월 러시아의 우크라이나 침공 이후 17만 명 수준인 상비군을 30만 명으로 대폭 증강으로 전환하고 보유 무기를 우크라이나에 제공했다.
폴란드 국방부는 급격한 군비증강에서 지난달 27일 한국 기업들로부터 K-2 전차 980대와 K9 자주포 648문, A-50 경공격기 48대 등 수입과 현지생산 투자를 계약했다.
