Somewhere Near Where I Am

A Song for the Journey

by You앤Me Art Place

They say they’ll come,
yet never come.
They say they’ll go,
yet never go.

On which wind blow,
by what unseen way,
through which season
will they drift or stay?

They promise they’ll stay,
then slip away.
They vow they’ll leave,
yet choose to stay.

I stay where my heart runs free,
I dwell where my heart is laid.

So drifting off and carried away,
so drifting back, tide after tide,
though paper planes are sent to the sky,
though paper boats are cast far wide.

They find their way to where I live,
They pause and rest where I reside.

So childhood quietly slips away,
so youth moves on and fades from sight,

and now I stand somewhere mid-flight.

Those who said they’d come, arrive.
Those who said they’d go, depart.
Those who said they’d stay, remain.
Those who said they’d leave, take part.

Where my heart wanders,
where my heart be still,
flowers bloom with every turn,
fruit grows ripe by time’s own will.

So I have lived,
so I live still,
so I live on and on—
and now I am somewhere near where I am.
