A renewed wave of bitter cold has taken hold today. Seoul began the day 9 degrees colder than yesterday with biting winds, and a cold wave advisory is in place across much of the central regions, and it will stay freezing all day. Cold, dry air is increasing the risk of wildfire. Dry weather alerts remain in place across the capital and eastern parts of Korea. With strong winds adding to the risk, extra caution is needed to prevent wildfires.

And this afternoon, most regions will see temperatures going down 4 to 5 degrees lower than on Wednesday. Seoul and Chuncheon will get up to minus 1 degree, Daegu gets up to 2 degrees under mostly sunny skies except in the west of Jeju, which will see more rain. We'll get brief relief from this strong cold snap tomorrow, then freezing weather returns and stays through early next week! Meanwhile, starting tomorrow through the weekend, a wintry mix is forecast for central regions and parts of southern regions.
