모든 학과가 동일한 서류 요구 조건을 적용하는 것은 아니며, 학과마다 Research Statement, Teaching Statement를 따로 제출하도록 요구하는 경우도 있고, Cover Letter에 이 내용을 통합하여 제출하도록 요청하는 경우도 있다. 2장 이내가 기본 원칙, 필요할 경우 3장까지 확장할 수 있지만, 불필요한 정보는 최대한 줄이는 것이 좋다.
