오늘은 국외심화연수에서 배운 내용으로 프레젠테이션을 했습니다. 발표한 내용을 옮겨둡니다. 영어로 발표했지만 한글 번역본부터 올려놓습니다. 읽어주시고 하트 눌러주시고 댓글까지 주시는 분들께, 무척 감사합니다.
1. 안녕하세요, 여러분. 제 이름은 벨라입니다. 오늘 저는 16년이라는 시간 동안, 교육대학교 시절부터 교사가 된 지금까지 다져온 저만의 교육철학을 여러분과 나누고자 합니다.
2. 저는 교육이란 무엇이고, 더 좋은 수업을 어떻게 만들 수 있을까에 대해 수없이 고민해 왔습니다. 크룩스 교수님의 교육철학 강의를 듣고 나서, 정말 중요한 사실을 깨달았습니다. 제가 생각하는 교육과 배움이 무엇인지 명확하게 정의 내리지도 못한 채, 그저 더 나은 교육을 추구하고 있었다는 것을요.
3. 그렇다면 교육은 어디를 향해야 할까요? 저는 교사의 교육 방향은 교사가 어떤 어른과 그들이 만들어갈 세상을 상상하는가에 따라 결정된다고 생각합니다. 저는 우리 모두가 각자의 모습 그대로 자유롭게 존재하면서, 서로를 이해하고 포용하는 세상을 꿈꿉니다. 새가 굳이 수영을 잘할 필요가 없고, 거북이가 나무를 기어오르지 않아도 괜찮은 것처럼, 우리 모두가 자유롭게 존재해야 한다고 생각합니다.
4. 제가 꿈꾸는 세상은 자유롭고, 독립적이면서도 누군가 뒤처지거나 소외될 때 기꺼이 손을 내밀 줄 아는 마음이 넉넉한 어른들로 이루어진 사회입니다.
5. 그렇기 때문에 저는 학생들에게 서로 다른 이야기들을 듣는 재미를 알려주고 싶습니다. 예를 들어, 제 수업에서는 거짓말 글쓰기 활동을 할 때마다 꼭 서로의 이야기를 돌려 읽고 댓글을 달아줍니다. 친구들이 만들어낸 이야기들이 얼마나 재미있는지 경험하는 것이죠.
서로 다른 생각을 나누든, 영어, 프랑스어, 힌디어 같은 다른 언어를 경험하든, ‘다르다는 것’이 얼마나 다채롭고 즐거운 일인지 깨닫게 해주고 싶습니다. 동시에 개인이 각자의 정체성을 찾아가면서 스스로 탐구하고, 노력하고, 해내는 즐거움도 느끼게 해주고 싶습니다.
6. 이 목표를 이루기 위해 저는 교실에서 학생 개개인의 고유한 정체성을 존중하며, 끊임없이 개별적인 피드백을 제공하는 창의적인 교육과정 설계자가 되어야 합니다.
제가 가장 좋아하는 교수법은 프로젝트 학습입니다. 학생들이 저마다의 탐구 과정을 정하고 한 단계씩 나아갈 때, 저는 밀접하게 피드백하며 성장을 돕습니다. 그리고 서로의 과정을 공유하게 함으로써 다양한 생각들을 흥미롭게 접하고 함께 성장할 수 있도록 합니다.
이 사진은 제가 아이들과 함께 경로당 그림책 낭독회를 열었던 사진입니다. 함께 마을 어른들로부터 이야기감을 찾고, 친구들과 생성형 AI의 도움을 받아 나만의 그림책을 완성하여 마을 어르신들께 기쁨으로 전해드리기까지. 우리 아이들은 따로 또 같이 눈부시게 성장하고 각자의 아름다움으로 반짝였습니다. 물론 교사로서 저도 벅찬 뿌듯함을 느끼며 한 단계 나아갔습니다.
7. 제 교육철학은 온갖 나무와 꽃이 가득한 정원과 같습니다.
그 나무와 꽃들은 서로 다른 시기에, 다른 모습과 속도로 성장하고 피어납니다. 저는 이 정원처럼 아름답고 흥미로운 교육을 만들기 위해 계속 노력할 것입니다. 그리고 우리 모두가 미래의 정원을 함께 가꾸어 나가기를 바랍니다.

My name is Bella, and today, I'd like to share my educational philosophy, which I've been developing for 16 years, from my time at the university of education to my career as a teacher.
2. I've spent countless hours thinking about the nature of education and how to create better lessons.
However, it was after listening to Mr. Crookes's lecture on educational philosophy that I was finally able to clearly define the educational philosophy I'd been developing all along.
3. So, where should education be headed?
I believe a teacher's direction in education is shaped by their vision of the kind of adults they want to see in the world, and the kind of society those adults will build. I dream of a world where we understand and embrace each other, while each of us remains free to be ourselves.
Just as a bird doesn't need to swim well, and a turtle doesn't need to climb trees, I believe we should all be free to exist as we are.
4. My ideal society is one made up of adults who are free, independent, and generous enough to lend a hand when someone is falling behind or feeling left out.
5. That's why I want to help my students discover the joy of listening to different stories.
For example, in one of my classes, When we do creative writing, we always read each other's stories and leave comments. It's a great experience to see how interesting the stories my friends come up with are.
Whether it's sharing different ideas or experiencing different languages like English, French, or Hindi, I want them to understand that being different is a colorful and joyful thing. At the same time, I want them to feel the excitement of exploring, striving, and achieving as they find their own identity as an individual.
6. To achieve this, I must become a creative curriculum designer in the classroom, constantly providing personalized feedback that respects each student's unique identity.
My favorite teaching method is project-based learning. As students set their own inquiry processes and advance step by step, I provide close feedback to support their growth. By having them share their progress with one another, they can engage with diverse ideas and grow together.
This picture is from a picture book reading event that I organized with my students at a senior center. Our students found stories from the village elders, and with the help of their friends and generative AI, they completed their own picture books to share with the senior citizens. The children grew brilliantly, both individually and together, and sparkled with their own unique beauty. Of course, as a teacher, I also felt an overwhelming sense of pride and took a step forward in my own growth.
7. My educational philosophy is like a garden filled with all sorts of trees and flowers.
They grow and blossom at different times, in different forms, and at different speeds. I will continue to work hard to create an education as beautiful and interesting as this garden. And I hope we can all work together to tend to this garden of our future.
