Balancing Values and Adaptability:

Lessons from a Pop-Up Booth at Frieze Seoul 2023

프리즈 서울 2023 푸드부스 후기

I participated in the recent event, Frieze Seoul 2023, held at COEX. As an operation manager for our booth, I was granted my first chance to assist our booth, and little did I know that this experience would yield intriguing insights.

In the previous year's event, we had high hopes for our signature donuts, with 4pcs pre-packaged in enticing boxes. However, fate had a different plan. Our customers preferred to order a single, delectable donut paired with a beverage. Our brand's claim to fame was its non-greasy fried bread, generously filled with milk whipped cream, presenting a unique offering. But donuts are usually the greasy sidekick to your coffee, right?

This intricate interplay of factors underscores the nuanced dynamics that shape the reception and perception of products and services. The divergence in consumer preferences between domestic and foreign markets should be attributed.

In response to this twist, we decided to diversify our menu, stepping beyond the realm of our beloved donuts to offer salads and sandwiches. But, as I stared at our revamped menu, I couldn't help but wonder: would customers really pair a salad with a donut? Was it a culinary match made in heaven, or a mismatch born out of a fleeting whim?

The question that loomed over me was this: which was more vital, upholding our brand's identity or satiating the immediate hunger of visitors? It turned out, salad and donuts weren't the dynamic duo we envisioned. Salads struggled to find their place in our customers' hearts, while sandwiches stole the show.

In the end, the clear winner was the customer experience. We realized that a streamlined, customer-centric approach was the path forward. It became evident that while change is important, it shouldn't bulldoze over the essence of our brand.

Reflecting on this experience, I'm reminded that life is like a buffet of opportunities. We must skillfully balance the flavors of our core values with the thrill of innovation. Embracing new challenges and adapting to evolving circumstances enriched my understanding of customer dynamics. This event transformed me into a more adaptable and open-minded strategy organizer.

In the grand banquet of life, let's not forget to savor every moment. Let's spice things up, step out of our culinary comfort zones, and create experiences that leave a lasting and scrumptious mark on everyone we meet! Bon appétit! X)

I believe adaptability is crucial in all aspects of life, whether in the arts or the culinary world.
