-어느덧 11월, 올해도 이제 얼마 남지 않았습니다. 매년 연말이 올 때면 한 해의 감사한 사람들이 떠오르곤 하는데요. 이번 연말, 지금 떠오르는 감사한 사람에게 무엇을 선물하고 싶으신가요?

이나리 | 뜨개질로 직접 떠서 뜬 목도리를 선물해 주고 싶어요, 모티프원에서 진행하는 프로그램 중 뜨개질 시간이 있어요. 작은 코스터, 책갈피, 귀여운 오브제 등을 만들어서 떠나시곤 합니다. 그 시간의 정수는 함께 나누는 이야기에 있지만 손을 움직여서 직접 무언가를 만들고 그걸 사용하는 즐거움을 알았어요. 내가 직접 만든 목도리로 고마운 사람에게 따뜻한 온기를 만들어 줄 수 있다면 행복할 것 같아요.

-연말하면 떠오르는 이미지들이 있습니다. 연말하면 떠오르는 냄새와 생각나는 노래가 무엇인지 궁금합니다.

이나리 | 연말이면 각종 향신료를 넣고 끓인 뱅쇼의 냄새를 떠올립니다. 겨울이 무르익기 시작하면 모티프원에서 저는 뱅쇼를 끓여 오시는 분들과 나누어 마신답니다. 달큼한 향신료 향이 따뜻한 집 안 구석구석에 퍼지면서 오신 분들의 속과 마음을 따뜻하게 데워줄 생각을 하면 겨울이 더욱 다정하게 다가옵니다. 겨울마다 제가 자주 듣는 LP가 있습니다. George Winston의 'December' 앨범입니다. 눈 내린 설산과 하얀 자작나무를 떠오르게 하면서도 그 모습을 함께 보고 있는 누군가의 따스한 온기가 느껴지는 앨범입니다. 저희 집 정원에 눈이 내리면 바로 그 앨범을 틀고 정원을 바라본답니다.

-올해의 한 해를 마무리하면서 혹은 새로운 한 해를 준비하고 시작할 때마다 지켜오고 있는 자신만의 루틴이나 의식 같은 게 있다면 무엇인가요?

이나리 | 저는 대부분 그저 평소와 같은 일상으로 새해를 맞이합니다. 그것은 특정한 날을 특별하게 기념해서 다른 날을 더 평범하게 만드는 대신 나의 매일을 '지금'과 '여기'를 살아야겠다는 자각의 실천이기도 합니다. 그 순간에 충실하다 보면 오늘도, 그리고 내일도 큰 계획이나 목표를 세워서 맞이하는 날보다도 은은하지만 깊고 진실한 날이 되더라고요. 이것이 제가 오늘을 사는 방식이고 내일을 만나는 태도랍니다. 이번 연말에도 게스트 분들과 뱅쇼를 나누어 마시고, 각자의 방에서 마음에 맞는 책을 꺼내 들고 오늘 하루를 정리하듯 올 한해를 돌아볼 것 같아요. 그리고 어쩌면 손님들과 어젯밤 각자가 보낸 한해의 마지막 밤과 생각에 대해 마음 나누는 시간으로 새해의 아침을 채울지도 모르겠습니다.

-내년에도 변하지 않았으면 하는, 지키고 싶은 나만의 습관이 있으신가요?

이나리 | 집으로 오는 고양이들에게 밥을 주고 정원에 물을 주는 일이요. 올해 '프레농'을 오픈하면서 정원에 새로운 다채로운 나무들을 많이 심었답니다. 정원을 가꾸면 평생이 즐거워진다고 하는데, 저 역시 천천히 성장하는 나무들에게 물을 주고 말을 걸면서 그들의 생명력을 지켜보고 오래오래 가꾸며 그들처럼 천천히 성장하고 싶습니다.

-2025년을 색으로 표현한다면 어떤 색이었다고 할 수 있나요? 그리고 다가올 2026년은 어떤 색으로 기억되었으면 하시는지 궁금합니다.

이나리 | 올해 모티프원에서 새로운 공간을 오픈했습니다. 아트스테이 '프레농' 입니다. 20년이 넘는 우리 가족의 꿈이었던 프로젝트를 1년이 넘는 시간을 들여 드디어 마무리했습니다. 아니, 이제서야 새로운 프로젝트가 시작되었다는 안도감과 함께 앞으로 어떤 시도를 할 수 있을지 다양한 고민을 하는 재미에 빠져있습니다. 그래서 오히려 올해는 흰 도화지로 돌아갔다는 생각이 듭니다. 모든 색으로 터치를 넣을 수 있는. 내년에는 더욱 다양한 색과 질감을 시도해 보고 싶네요. 그 색은 따뜻하게 노랗고 강렬한 빨강이면서 편안한 초록이었으면 좋겠습니다.

-November is here, and the year is winding down. As the holidays approach, we often think about the people we're grateful for. This year, who comes to mind, and what would you like to give them?

Nari Lee | I'd love to gift a hand-knitted scarf. At Motif 1, we have a knitting program where we make little coasters, bookmarks, and cute objects. The real essence of that time is in the conversations we share, but I've also learned the joy of making something with my own hands and seeing it used. If I can create a warm scarf for someone I'm grateful for, I think that would be really special.

-Holidays often bring certain images to mind. Is there a smell or song that immediately makes you think of this season?

Nari Lee | I immediately think of mulled wine, simmered with spices. When winter starts to settle in, I brew it at Motif 1 and share it with guests. The sweet, spiced aroma fills the house, warming hearts and stomachs, and it makes winter feel even cozier. There's also an LP I play every winter : George Winston's December. It evokes snow-covered mountains and white birch trees, but also the warmth of sharing that view with someone special. When snow falls in my garden, I put on that album and just gaze at the yard-it's magical.

-As the year ends or a new one begins, do you have any personal routines or rituals you follow?

Nari Lee | Mostly, I greet the new year in the same way I live my everyday life. Instead of making one day special and leaving the rest ordinary, I try to be fully present in each moment. Focusing on the 'here and now' makes even ordinary days feel quietly profound. This year, I imagine sharing mulled wine with guests, each picking a book from their room to quietly reflect on the year. Perhaps we'll also spend the early morning exchanging thoughts about the last night of the year-a gentle, shared way to welcome the new year.

-Is there a habit you hope to maintain in the coming year?

Nari Lee | Feeding the cats that come to my home and watering the garden. Since opening Prenon, I've planted a variety of new trees in the garden. Watching and nurturing slowly growing trees reminds me to grow at my own pace, tending to life with care and patience.

-If you had to describe 2025 in a color, what would it be? And what color do you hope 2026 will be remembered as?

Nari Lee | This year, we opened a new space at Motif1-an art stay called Prenom. It's a project that's been my family's dream for over twenty years, and after more than a year of work, it finally came to life. The year feels like a blank canvas, ready to be painted with any color. For 2026, I hope to experiment with even more colors and textures-a palette that's warmly yellow, intensely red, and comfortably green, full of life and energy.
