In the 1970s and 1980s, in the heart of Gangseo-gu, Seoul, there was a ‘hot place’ where people from all over the country gathered.
That was the Airport Market.
This episode sheds light on the golden age of the Airport Market, which took over the commercial district of the US military base,
and grew into the largest market in the western part of Seoul, with military personnel, tourists, and local residents.
The market’s scenery and vitality, which was the last heyday before the opening of the civil aviation era, the expansion of Gimpo International Airport, and redevelopment, are brought back to life through oral accounts, records, and on-site photos.
Although it has disappeared now,
back then, the Airport Market was the ‘real Seoul’ where everyone’s lives and times gathered.
