9/15(Sun) Governance

by Andrew Oh

Governance refers to the systems, processes, and institutions through which decisions are made, authority is exercised, and accountability is maintained in organizations, governments, or any structured group.

It involves the mechanisms of control and guidance applied to ensure that the rules, policies, and norms are followed and that goals are achieved effectively and ethically.

Governance can apply in various contexts, such as:

Corporate Governance: The way businesses and corporations are directed and controlled. It includes practices for board structure, management oversight, financial accountability, and ensuring that the company meets the needs of stakeholders.

Public Governance: Refers to the mechanisms of governing within a country, city, or organization. This includes how public policies are made and implemented, ensuring transparency, public participation, rule of law, and effective management of resources.

Global Governance: The cooperation and regulatory mechanisms between nations to manage international issues such as climate change, trade, human rights, and security.

IT Governance: Refers to the structure and processes that ensure the effective management of information technology in alignment with an organization's goals.

Good governance typically involves principles such as transparency, accountability, participation, rule of law, responsiveness, equity, and inclusiveness
