The name USS Gettysburg has been used for more than one ship in the U.S. Navy, named in honor of the Battle of Gettysburg (1863), one of the most significant battles in the American Civil War.



USS Gettysburg (1863–1879)


• Type: Steamship (originally a British blockade runner named Margaret and Jessie)

• Service: Captured by the Union Navy during the Civil War in 1863 and renamed USS Gettysburg.

• Role: Served as a gunboat and dispatch vessel.

• Decommissioned: 1879
