Seoul Summer Activities with a Child!

by Allaboutmyeongdong

This summer, I enjoyed a short but meaningful trip to Seoul with my child. In search of family-friendly activities that work despite the heat, I prioritized hotels near Seoul Station South Korea—especially ones with ideal locations for exploring in summer. That's when The Plaza Hotel Seoul caught my eye. Its proximity to Seoul Station and location right in front of City Hall made it perfect for enjoying the urban summer without hassle. Plus, even a taxi ride took us anywhere quickly without stress!

Travel Arrival Made Easy

From Incheon International Airport, we took the AREX to Seoul Station, transferred to Line 1, and got off at City Hall Station. Exit 6 connects directly to the hotel lobby—so with luggage and a child in tow, we didn’t get caught in the sun or rain once. Check-in was fast and pleasant. The lobby was cool and spacious; my child’s eyes lit up at the sparkling chandelier and cozy lounge. The staff warmly handled our bags and guided us—melting away our travel fatigue instantly.

A Lovely Room with a City View

Inside the room, immaculate bedding and a wide window revealed Seoul Plaza at City Hall. That sweeping urban view especially pleased me. With City Hall and Deoksugung Palace nearby, we found it incredibly easy to take short walks or head out without stress—another sign we’d made the right choice among hotels near Seoul Station.

For families, access and convenience matter most. The Plaza delivered on both: comfy elevator access for luggage, plus a convenience store and café right next door for child snacks or drinks. It turned our arrival from weary to excited.

Seoul Battleship “Water Picnic” the Child Loved

The highlight was the Seoul Battleship Water Picnic, held at Seoul Battleship Park in Mangwon Hangang Park. A taxi took us there easily, saving the child from exhaustion. Public transit also works—take village bus 16 from Hapjeong or 9 from Mangwon, and alight at “seoulbattleshippark”.

Admission was delightfully affordable: adults 3,000 won, youth 2,000 won, kids 1,000 won. Once inside, a splashy wonderland awaited. Water slides, toddler pools, bubble parties, and fountains—not just fun, but festival-level excitement. My child ran and laughed endlessly. We even joined a water gun battle (with goggles)—I'm still picturing their determined dash toward the flag!

A better surprise? Interactive programs like busking, random K-pop dance challenges, underwater treasure hunts, and water cannon shows. As afternoon turned to evening, EDM beats and water cannons turned the venue into a full-on family party. We soaked up summer, experiencing it through both play and joy.

Beyond water fun, we toured decommissioned naval vessels—ROKS Seoul, a submarine, and a patrol boat—at Seoul Battleship Park. It was a memorable history lesson for the child, fostering curious questions like, “This ship was really at sea?”

Urban Summer Calm—Cheonggyecheon Night Walk

After a day of play, we strolled down nearby Cheonggyecheon in the evening. Lights reflected softly on the water, and a cool breeze quelled the day’s heat. My child marveled at the lit stream, and we cherished this peaceful city moment. Returning was a breeze—just steps from the hotel’s comfort.

Small bridges and rest spots provided perfect photo moments, and nighttime strollers and families filled the path with a lively charm. “Mom, the water sparkles!” my child exclaimed—and that joy made us all smile.

A Summer Hub to Return To

Exhausted from a full day, we returned to the hotel. After a warm shower, my child drifted off instantly. Gazing out at City Hall’s nightscape, I realized how vital location can be. The Plaza Hotel Seoul offered both convenience and peace—a safe, dependable base for families. This trip couldn’t have been better anchored.

Morning Peace: Hotel Pool Time

After a packed day, we headed to the annex pool on the 18th floor the next morning. Early in the day, it was quiet and refreshing. My child, still full of energy, dived right in—clearly kids' stamina is legendary! Meanwhile, my husband used the gym on the 17th floor, and I started the day swimming and laughing with our child—pure rejuvenation.
