요즘 핫한 봉준호 감독의 인터뷰 기사를 보면 대학 내내 영화 동아리에서 영화를 봤다는 말이 나온다. 기사 원문을 보면 영화 동아리를 cinephile club으로 표현했다. cinephile이라는 단어를 보니 익숙하지 않은지. 1/2일 소개한 philo- 와 관련된 단어로 bibliophile이 있다. biblio대신에 cine를 넣어 cinephile이라는 단어가 됐다. Cine가 영화 cinema에서 온 단어라는 것은 쉽게 유추할 수 있고 cine뒤에 ‘~을 좋아하는 사람’이라는 의미가 있는 phile이 붙었다(philo는 ~을 좋아한다, phile은 ~을 좋아하는 사람이라는 뜻이다). philo라는 어근을 알았다면 금방 뜻을 유추할 수 있는데 이게 바로 어근을 공부하는 재미. 그래서 오늘은 philo-의 접미사형 phile와 관련된 단어를 더 외워보자.
