Especially during tough times, we hope for a miracle that will instantly end all our hardships.
That hope becomes even more desperate when we are poor, sick, or in danger.
When our family left our first mission field, all regular financial support stopped.
We barely managed to start again with the help of our family, but every single day, I earnestly prayed for a miracle.
As a young couple in our early 30s, having endured difficult times and trying to stand up and move forward again, we relied on daily prayers to get by.
We struggled with the language, had no special skills to secure a job, and had few churches or friends in Korea to contact for help, so all we could do was pray.
It wasn’t just us—every missionary who trained and served with us was in the same situation.
One day, it was our wedding anniversary.
We left the kids in someone’s care, and the two of us decided to go window shopping on Orchard Road, which is like Myeongdong in Korea.
Holding an ice cream cone each, we walked along the street, chatting.
Just walking through the beautiful, vibrant heart of Singapore and enjoying each other’s company was already a blessing and a miracle for us.
Suddenly, a woman walking towards us from afar ran up to greet us.
This beautiful woman had graduated from our training school not long ago and had found a job.
We were happy to see each other and exchanged updates. Then, out of the blue, she asked,
"Is today a special day for you two? You both seem so relaxed and enjoying a date at this hour could it be your wedding anniversary?"
My husband replied,
"Yes, that’s right. How did you guess? Today is our wedding anniversary."
She responded with excitement,
"Wow, then it’s a wonderful day! I’d love to celebrate with you. I want to treat you to dinner.
But I have to work around that time… hmm, what should I do?
Okay, how about this? Go to a restaurant I’ll choose at 6 PM. I’ll send you the address later.
It’s one of my favorite places... I’ll make a reservation, and everything will be ready by the time you get there.
Just make sure both of you dress your best when you go.”
We were still standing in place, holding our ice cream cones, as we watched her walk back to her office, still processing what had just happened. She waved back at us before disappearing into her building.
We stood there for a while, slowly discussing and confirming what had just taken place.
We had met a beautiful angel without wings.
Although we didn’t fully understand the situation, the bottom line was that we were supposed to dress nicely and show up at the address she sent us at 6 PM.
We received a message with directions to a street we had never been to before, along with instructions on which bus to take. We hurried home, left the kids with someone again, and dressed up as she suggested. We caught the bus and arrived at the restaurant.
It was a French restaurant set in a garden on the first floor of an elegant building.
Only those with reservations could enter.
From the moment we stepped inside, everything felt so luxurious and overwhelming that we were quite nervous.
The tables were illuminated by candlelight, and as we faced unfamiliar French dishes, we felt like we were in a dream.
Filled with gratitude for this incredible experience, we savored every bite, marveling at the delicious escargot and giant prawns. As we finished our dessert and prepared to leave, she appeared again, smiling.
"Did you enjoy the food here?
I came here recently and loved it, so I’ve become quite fond of this place.
Actually, after lunch today, God suddenly told me, ‘Go outside now. You will meet someone you love, and I want you to give them a gift.’ So, I grabbed a coffee and went for a walk.
That’s when I saw the two of you.
I knew right away that you were the ones God was talking about.
And when I asked, it turned out to be your wedding anniversary.
Isn’t God amazing? He sent me to celebrate your anniversary!
I’m so thankful and happy that God allowed me to serve you, a missionary couple from Korea.
And this is something else God asked me to give you. Please accept it."
She handed us an envelope.
Quickly, we responded in our clumsy English, trying to keep up with her fast-paced Singaporean accent,
"Thank you so much. Wow, God really told you to do this?
This is our first time having such a fancy meal.
And it’s still hard to believe we’re receiving such a gift out of the blue.
Truly, you are an angel to us.
For a couple like us, living day by day, everything feels like a miracle.
And now, you’ve given us such a beautiful evening to remember."
We sincerely thanked her and returned home.
With trembling hands, my husband and I opened the envelope.
Inside was 500 Singapore dollars.
It was a miracle. To a family where even 1 dollar was precious, God had suddenly sent us a large sum of money through a woman we met on the street.
We felt as if a spotlight from heaven was following us, watching over us.
Through one person’s obedience, we experienced a miracle, and that miracle became a source of faith and strength for our daily lives.
That night, my husband and I prayed,
"God, please help us to become someone’s angel too.
Help us to hear and obey Your voice.
Just like that angel without wings, help us to serve as Your messenger.
And Lord! please bless the woman who was an angel to us today."
The small miracles created by angels without wings become a source of faith that helps us continue living in this world.
