Director Bong Joon-ho’s “Parasite”/ became the first Korean film / to win a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film Sunday, /continuing its triumphant march through foreign markets, film festivals and now award ceremonies.

봉준호 감독의 ‘기생충’은 외국시장, 영화제 그리고 수상식까지 영광스러운 행진을 계속하면서 골든 글러브 외국어영화상을 수상한 최초의 한국영화가 되었다.

“와우, 정말 멋져요, 믿을 수가 없군요” 상을 받기 위해 계단을 올라가며 봉 감독이 말했다.

“Once / you overcome the 1-inch-tall barrier of subtitles, / you will be introduced to so many more amazing films,” Bong said through an interpreter.

“ 일단 자막의 1인치 장벽만 극복한다면, 여러분은 너무나 많은 멋진 영화로 안내될 것입니다.” 봉 감독은 통역사를 통해 말했다.

He added, “I think we use only one language: the cinema.”

그는 덧붙였다. “나는 우리가 영화라는 유일한 하나의 언어를 사용한다고 생각합니다.”

The film / was also nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Director / but failed to win either.

이 영화는 또한 최우수 각본상과 최우수 감독상 후보에 올랐으나 둘 다 수상하지는 못했습니다.

- fail은 직접적으로 실패하다... 보다는 fail to를 사용하여 ~하지 못했다는 표현으로 많이 씁니다.

But winning Best Foreign Language Film / is a monumental feat for / a Korean film on the international scene /and could start a new chapter in the history of Korean cinema.

하지만 외국어영화상 수상은 국제사회에서 한국영화의 기념비적인 업적이었고 한국영화 역사상 새로운 장을 열었다.

Attention is now shifting to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Best International Feature Film category. Nominees/ will be announced on the morning of Jan. 13.
