인생, 정상에서 내려올 때도 겸손해야 합니다.
인생이라는 삶의 터전은 경쟁이 치열합니다. 치열한 경쟁을 뚫고 정상에 오르기는 어렵습니다. 정치 분야든 경제 분야든 사회 분야든 예능 분야든, 모든 영역에서 정상으로 올라가는 것은 매우 어렵습니다. 오랜 시간 겸손한 자세로 노력하고 인내하며 힘든 시간을 보내야 위로 올라갈 수 있습니다. 하지만 힘들게 정상에 올라가더라도 밑으로 내려가는 건 순식간인 게 인생입니다.
어떤 분야든 정상을 향해 위로 올라갈수록 실력 있고 뛰어난 사람들과 경쟁해야 합니다. 자만하거나, 딴 곳으로 한눈을 팔거나, 방심하고 있다가는 순식간에 아래로 떨어질 수 있습니다. 이 세상에는 자기보다 젊고 유능한 인재들이 계속 태어나고 계속 성장하고 계속 위쪽으로 올라오기 때문입니다. 나이가 들수록 체력도 떨어지고, 외모도 늙어가고, 적응력도 줄어들기 때문입니다. 따라서 어느 정도 정상에 오르고 나이가 들면 내려올 준비를 해야 합니다.
정상에서 품위 있고 자연스럽게 내려오려면, 올라갈 때만큼 노력해야 합니다. 특히 높은 자리에 올라갈수록 겸손해야 합니다. 사람은 지위가 높아지거나 돈이 많아지거나 인기가 상승하면, 말과 행동이 거만해지기 쉽습니다. 자신의 능력을 믿고 까불다가 한 방에 훅~ 하고 세상에서 사라진 사람이 얼마나 많은지 모릅니다. 인생은 올라갈 때도 겸손하고 인내해야 하듯이, 내려올 때도 겸손하고 인내해야 합니다. 거만한 사람은 아래로 끌어내리고 겸손한 사람은 위로 밀어 올리는 게 세상이 돌아가는 원리이기 때문입니다.
