내가 해야 할 일만 잘하면 됩니다. 인생을 효율적으로 살려면, 내가 할 일과 상대가 할 일과 세상이 할 일을 구분해야 합니다. 세상에는 내가 통제할 수 없는 영역이 많이 있습니다. 가족이나 친구의 성공을 위해 기도해 주고 따듯하게 격려해 줄 수 있지만, 그들의 행복은 그들 손에 달려있습니다. 내가 할 수 있는 만큼 최선을 다해 주되, 나머지는 그들이 알아서 행동하고 책임질 수 있도록 해야 합니다.

그리고 무슨 일을 하든 처음부터 욕심을 내면 안 됩니다. 세상은 나의 필요를 채워줄 수는 있어도 내 욕심을 모두 채워줄 수는 없습니다. 처음에는 한 가지를 잘하려고 노력해야 합니다. 한 가지를 잘하면 둘을 잘할 수 있고, 둘을 잘하면 셋을 잘할 수 있기 때문입니다. 한 가지를 성공시킬 수 있어야, 그 경험을 바탕으로 또 다른 것을 성공시킬 수 있습니다. 한꺼번에 여러 가지를 성공시키려 애쓰지 말고, 먼저 한 가지를 제대로 성공시키도록 노력해야 합니다. 한 번에 모든 것을 하려는 욕심을 내려놓으세요. 가벼운 마음으로 자신이 잘할 수 있는 한 가지부터 성실하게 수행하면 됩니다.
