They applied for a warrant against Liza, and for permission to have her transferred to a prison nearby the local court. The first pieces of evidence submitted were the video tapes, which it was proved, had not been manipulated or altered.
The second showed Sarah’s shooting the old man, and the third one, which showed Marcello being killed by Liza with the knife, as well as the reports about Marcello Marino’s death, the body in the house, and his subsequent identification.
Since they didn’t have enough time to look thoroughly through all of the video tapes, those obvious proofs were submitted at the beginning. They would underpin other videos viewed later.
But one thing was that they still had no clue where the old man’s body was. If the body was even still there, it would solidify and confirm their case, and all the evidence that they were able to collect about the man. Evidence was evidence, but a body―putting a face to something―made it real. They couldn’t get any information from Liza.
“I requested from all police stations in the area any missing persons reports during the past 10 years of men between 50 and 90. The man who was shot cannot be younger than 50. And I've sorted out several persons who looked like him. The angle in the video wasn’t ideal to distinguish one’s appearance, so it was difficult.”
Cynthia showed him the reports. There were 6 persons in total. But no matter how many times they replayed the video, it was impossible to determine what the man’s face’s looked like.
"Ok, let's just wait it out,"
Alexander replied.
Investigating this case felt totally different from investigating other cases. He could deal with others from a third party's point of view, but not with this case.
Though it was but a fleeting moment, he was the person who made (fell in) love with the murderer. He tried not to identity with the victims. But that sort of attempt was not that which can be achieved by will alone.
He put the cup of dark coffee in front of him, habitually opened the notebook, and took hold of the pen. As he closed his eyes, a creepy spider, which had Sarah's face, popped into his head.
