"Platinum is a symbol of everlasting love. I hope your happy life with your wife lasts forever.”
Alexander fingered the ring case in his pocket with a smiling face, and headed for the appointed place.
It was a great meal with coworkers who couldn’t meet often. They were brisk youngsters who liked Alexander a lot. But Alexander wanted to go to Cynthia as quickly as possible. When he told Jason secretly he was going to propose to Cynthia tonight, Jason laughed in an exaggerated way.
"Why do you laugh so loud?"
Alexander asked with surprise. Is it a funny thing to propose marriage to somebody?
"What a beautiful coincidence,"
Jason stopped laughing, and answered seriously.
Even before Alexander asked what he meant, Jason put his arm around Alexander's shoulder.
"You will be happy forever with Cynthia, Alex. I know that. You know how much I like you and her. Congratulations. I will tell them later, after you’re gone."
Alexander took a taxi. It was already 9:30 p.m. His mind grew impatient. Get there, before she`s asleep. But he also knew that this time was too early for her to fall asleep.
When he got home, he almost kicked down the front door. And he was paralyzed by the sight in front of him.
The room was shimmering in the light of dozens of beautiful candles which emitted a sweet scent, a wine bottle and wine glasses on the table, a pretty cream cake decorated with rose-shaped flowers on it and some finger foods.
He drew near Cynthia's figure, which was adorned in a white mini wedding dress, like a bride. Moreover, she was holding a huge rose bouquet, huge as if there were hundreds of roses in it. She covered her bright face slightly as she rose and began walking toward him, placing the bouquet into his hands. He was still surprised.
"I always wanted to do this with my loved one."
Alexander thought that things were reversed. He spoke in a shuddering voice of half surprise, half delight. Or rather, pure joy.
He murmured foolishly, still stunned. This, he never imagined in all his life. To be proposed to by her, the woman before him.
"You shouldn't . . . I should have been . . . "
Alexander was stuttering awkwardly to the extent that he felt almost like an invalid.
"No no, don't say that."
She covered his mouth with her hand. She took his left ring finger, put a shiny yellow gold ring on it. He saw a rose gold ring, which is the exact same shape as his, was shimmering on her left ring finger. He was astonished.
