"You have to report what happened to you to the police. We investigate and, simultaneously, offer you protection."
"I will. but not now. I can't. At least not now . . . I need get away from all this."
"OK, you promised me you would report. I will bring you to the hospital, can you walk?"
"Hospital? For what?"
"To check out your general condition and collect DNA from the criminal, of course."
"Please, don't even try to bring me here and there. Just be with me."
Alexander hadn't seen her in such a weak condition. Even though she was his ex girlfriend, she was now a victim according to the video she sent him. He needed to know what exactly happened to her.
The only thing he could guess was that Ed was involved in this shit somehow. But first of all, he should calm Violet. He felt agonized. He should tell Cynthia first.
"Relax yourself a bit. I will come back in a minute.”
He called Cynthia outside.
"Hi, what's up?"
"Hey, honey. How's your aunt doing?"
"Not great, I'm guessing her days are numbered. But it's alright."
"Ah. Sorry to hear that. Do you want me to come there?"
"No, you don't need to. As I told you before, it wouldn't make sense for you to come. Anyway, what's up? Why did you call so late?"
He explained cautiously about Violet and sent her the video.
"So . . . Can I let Violet stay in our home a day or two?"
"Is she still refusing to stay in a shelter or report what happened?"
"Yes, she is in extreme anxiety. Normal conversation is impossible now. I don't know what exactly happened to her."
"What if she messes up our house or steals something?"
She sounded not at all happy with this.
"Come on, she isn't like that. I will keep an eye on her."
Cynthia remained silent. To let a girl whom she dislikes into her house, especially one who was an ex girlfriend of her husband, was not a pleasant thing to her.
"OK, you can bring her home. You might need to make sure she's telling you the whole truth about what happened to her."
Cynthia consented rather stiffly. Alexander knew why Cynthia was worried.
