"Fuck! Fuck!!"
He couldn't stand this emotion anymore. He ran out of the house. He just ran to nowhere as fast as he could.
Why would she be targeted? She just did her job, that's all. The kind of work somebody else would deal with if it was not her. Because, that was the profession.
Alexander thought of countless people he met, and countless affairs related to those people, since choosing this job. Objectional people, people who are barely memorable, even people whom he loved. He heard advice hundreds of times that you don't need to promote friendship with people in the office because they are involved with you only because of work, and to exclude personal emotion in all business. He did his best to follow that advice, trusted that advice must be helpful to his career, or even for his life.
But this life didn't let him live easily in following that advice. This organization had swept him away amidst various cases which inevitably caused him unpleasant feelings, sometimes letting him fall in love with people whom he met because of work.
It was impossible to exclude any feeling or emotion only because they were involved with him by work. No matter how he struggled, he had to erase human feeling and emotion. He couldn't just purge these people from his personal life simply because he worked with them. This sort of thinking manifested into rage towards his own job, and further, towards his own life itself. He kept running. His legs got tired, he just walked. When he gathered his senses, it was already sunset. Horrific red orange colors swirled in the dying twilight. He looked around. It was pretty familiar to him. He had been here before. But when? He stood up there, trying to think.
One thing occurred to him. Chloe. He suspected she had some connection to the caller, even if it was minor. He remembered the address. He hailed a taxi, arrived home and drove his car almost crazily.
He looked up the old apartment building. He hurriedly began to search previous text messages. It was the building which the caller told him to go to. To the blind, wheelchair-bound girl, Chloe, who gave him those videos which the caller entrusted to her to give to Alexander. She must have some clue as to the identity of the caller. She could even be a member of the caller's inner circle. He moved to the house without any hesitation, but with fierce fury. He beat at the door as if trying to break it. He heard that feeble voice from inside.
"Yes?"
"Open the door, it's Gresham,"
he yelled violently.
