"She went to speak to your doctor. From what she said, she is arranging the details of your discharge."
What is there to arrange? I just need to sign out, he thought to himself.
At that moment, Cynthia walked back into the room with the doctor, exchanging smiles with Anna. It seemed Anna tried to force a smile. Anna got up, and told Alexander she hoped he had a speedy recovery with a rigid voice. Cynthia saw Anna was about to leave as Cynthia came in, and told her.
"Stay, why are you leaving?"
Anna answered shortly,
"I gotta go anyway. See you in the office, Cynthia. Alex, take care."
Anna walked out. Alexander saw Cynthia was looking at Anna’s disappearing figure for a quite long while.
"So, can I leave?"
Alexander asked the doctor. Cynthia turned her gaze to the doctor as well.
"Mr. Gresham. We'll discharge you today after the last IV. I want to advise you that you need plenty of rest and good care. No work yet. You might experience dizziness and sickness at times. So I hope there's someone who can care for you. Do you live with someone?"
"No, doctor, I live alone. But I can take care of myself."
The doctor made a tough expression. Actually Alexander didn't want to go back to his own home despite what he told everybody. There was nothing or nobody to rely on since he broke up with Violet. Being alone in his condition would be the most lonely thing he could ever experience. But he couldn't ask anybody to let him stay with them. He had just a few close male coworkers. A few of them even live with family, or at the very least a girlfriend or lover.
"You're coming home with me,"
Cynthia responded.
"Look, I don't need―"
Alexander began, stunned, but Cynthia cut him off.
"Don't argue, Alex. Is there somebody you can stay with until you’re better?"
Alexander shut his mouth. Cynthia continued.
"This is doctor's advise for your recovery and health. He wants someone there to look after you for a few days, and seeing as how your sister took off, that leaves me."
The doctor relaxed his expression.
"Then it's all settled? Great, Mr. Gresham! You just need to take this last IV. I wish you a quick recovery,"
and he left the room, leaving just he and Cynthia.
