The Frozen Ground flaws

雨水 [4] / [35]

"You're in no condition to drive,"

she admonished, but he laughed.

"Look who's talking."

He chuckled, and, in spite of her pain, she couldn't help but smile. He walked her to the car, and helped her inside, and 5 minutes later they were waiting in her doctor's office.

Luckily, the prognosis, though not great, wasn't grim either. Her meat cleaver was fairly dull, and hadn't gone deep enough to cause serious harm, but her foot was sliced open pretty badly, and some of the tendons were damaged.

"You're going to have to take off work for about 2-3 weeks while you heal,"

he told her.

"And you'll need to walk with a crutch. Don't put too much pressure on this foot until it's fully healed and you can walk normally. I'll see you in a week to check on your condition, but if you have any issues in the meantime, call the office."

"Well," said Alexander as they made their way back to the car,

"looks like we're stuck together for awhile."

"Oh, this is not what I expected. I wanted to look after you properly. Think about everything I told you in the hospital. How embarrassing!"

She sighed deeply. Truly, she might not be able to take care of him. In fact, the reverse was true. Now she was the one who needed help.

"If I cannot be any help, you can move on to somewhere else. That must better than being here."

"You seriously think I can leave you in this condition?"

She didn't answer. She just stared at him.

"You can still hear, can't you? That's enough though. I can't leave."

Cynthia was reminded of the promise she made to him. Listening to his story anytime he needed . . . She nodded, and said no more.

It was very inconvenient to use crutches for walking. She awkwardly grabbed them with both hands when she got out of the car. He helped her to stand straight. Since it caused sharp and grave pain if she stepped down on her foot even a little, she was very cautious.

"Oh no, I can't even take a shower. How awful!"

She shouted as if something occurred to her. She seemed agonized at not being able to take a shower. Her expression and tone were such that Alexander couldn't refrain from chuckling. It reminded him of an immature girl. She glared at him. He stopped laughing with difficulty, so his voice trembled when he next spoke.

"Sorry, uh . . . If you want, I can help you with that."

She kept glaring at him furiously, but laughed soon after. They got into the house together side by side.
