마태복음(Mat) 2장
1. 헤롯왕 때에 예수께서 유대 베들레헴에서 나시매 동방으로부터 박사들이 예루살렘에 이르러 말하되
1. After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem
2. 유대인의 왕으로 나신 이가 어디 계시뇨 우리가 동방에서 그의 별을 보고 그에게 경배하러 왔노라 하니
2. and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
3. 헤롯왕과 온 예루살렘이 듣고 소동한지라
3. When King Herod heard this he was disturbed, and all Jerusalem with him.
10. 저희가 별을 보고 가장 크게 기뻐하고 기뻐하더라
10. When they saw the star, they were overjoyed.
11. 집에 들어가 아기와 그 모친 마리아의 함께 있는 것을 보고 엎드려 아기께 경배하고 보배합을 열어 황금과 유향과 몰약을 예물로 드리니라
11. On coming to the house, they saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh.
On hearing of the news of the birth of Christ, all the people in Israel, including Herod, the king, and the priests and teachers of the law, were all distured, except the Magi who came from the east and who had already prepared for the gifts of gold, incense, and myrrh. And when they met Mary and Jesus, they were overjoyed and offered the things thay had brought from a long way.
Now i am wondering about these Magi, so-called wise men. How could they be wise and faithful enough to seek Jesus, the Messiah, through the stars, and how could they worship Him in readiness?
They seem to be truly wise men at that period, and I hope to be like them. I mean I want to be wise enough to get ready for Him to come again and be always alert to hear the voices of God and obey it.
I hope that I could accomplish the will of my Lord though my life, although the world do not even know my name.
At the time of His second coming, what can i offer Him? There would not be anything I should prepare like Magi, but rather I should keep praying and meditaing on the bible in the Holy Sprit, as well as doing goods, keeping an eye on either the clouds or the stars that could be the signals of God who intends to show to His own children in any case.
