Marriage

Judges 14:1-20

But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me. She’s the right one for me.” 4

Samson's first love started from a young Philistine girl in Timnah, but it ended up as a big failure of losing her and her father, as well as killing Philistine men with anger. He looked strong and wise enough to kill a lion with bare hands and make a riddle that is so complicated that no one can solve, saying " Out of eater, something to eat; out of the strong, something sweet.", which springs from his own special experiences he had.

However, he looks like an enigma himself, as he did it all with the spirit of God(6,19). Even though he was chosen and raised as a Nazirite, a consecrated man from God, he was acting as he wanted to. First, he was disobedient of parents as well as God's command and forced them to agree with his marriage. He also didn't tell his fault or sin of breaking the rule of touching and eating something from the carcass. He was betting on what he couldn't afford it, later leading to the killing of men and losing his wife. In the end, his newly married life was terribly ended.

This chapter reminds me of my first and second sight loves that I experienced at a young age. At that time I struggled to solve the problem of dating and marrying one of young men deep in prayer, and it was like a complicated riddle to me. Thankfully, I could choose to marry my husband. It was hard to make a decision, and it is also hard to live in harmony together. However, I never regret marrying him as we could go through lots of troubles and difficulties with the spirit of God and love each other.
