The South Korean government has launched an energy conservation campaign.
South Korea imports the majority of its oil and gas, with 70% passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
Due to the recent war with Iran and the blockade of the strait, oil prices have risen and the value of the won has fallen, dealing a blow to the South Korean economy, which relies heavily on energy-intensive manufacturing.
The South Korean Ministry of Climate Affairs introduced 12 recommended activities.
Examples include reducing shower time, riding bicycles for short distances, charging phones and EVs during the day, using washing machines and vacuum cleaners only on weekends, using high-efficiency appliances and lighting, and using public transportation.
Government and public institutions are implementing a five-day vehicle restriction system, limiting driving to only four weekdays.
The private sector is also making efforts to reduce electricity consumption.
For the first time in 30 years, a price cap has been implemented for gasoline, diesel, and heating kerosene, and a supplementary budget has been finalized.
