GitHub CEO to Leave Microsoft (WSJ. 20250811)
GitHub CEO Thomas Dohmke is leaving the company. GitHub is Microsoft's coding unit. Microsoft bought it for seven and a half billion dollars in 2018. Dohmke said today he plans to finish up the year before departing to become a startup founder once again. In a blog post, he said GitHub and its leadership team will become part of Microsoft's CoreAI unit. Ford says it plans to go head-to-head with cheap Chinese electric vehicles that are gobbling up market share around the world. The automaker announced it would spend $2 billion to overhaul a Kentucky factory and build a new line of affordable high-tech EVs, specifically a $30,000 electric pickup that it aims to launch in 2027. Ford's move comes during tough times for EVs in the US, where some automakers have scaled back or avoided the segment altogether. Meanwhile, Chinese battery maker and the world's largest maker of batteries for EVs, Contemporary Amperex Technology has suspended a major mining project after its license for a mine in Jiangxi expired over the weekend. The company said it would resume production if its license is renewed, and there would be no material impact on its operations. Expectations of higher lithium prices sent shares of Chinese lithium producers and South Korean battery stocks higher. Lithium prices have fallen by as much as 90% since a 2022 peak as the opening of new mines outpaced demand for the metal.
