Israel Attacks Hamas Leadership in Qatar (WSJ. 20250909)
Israel carried out a strike on Hamas's senior political leadership in Doha, Qatar today, expanding its fight against the militant group as it ramps up the war in the Gaza Strip. The attack represents a sharp escalation of tactics against Hamas and a potentially risky operation in Qatar, a key US partner in the region. Qatar condemned the attack. People familiar with the matter said that Israel informed the US that the attack was coming, and the US in turn notified Qatar. The US's Bureau of Labor Statistics said today that the pace of job growth was likely significantly weaker than reported from early 2024 through early this year. The BLS reported that the country added 911,000 fewer jobs over the 12 months that ended in March, trimming by a bit more than half the 1.79 million jobs the official data now show. Even though it is for a period that ended nearly six months ago, the report could amplify worries about the job market. And Magnum Ice Cream says it will aim for sales growth and higher profitability after its planned demerger from Unilever. The Ben & Jerry's maker set targets for its future as a standalone company saying it expects average annual organic sales growth of between 3 and 5% in the medium term from 2026. Unilever previously said Magnum would be listed in London, New York, and Amsterdam by the middle of November.
