The investors(e.g., Oracle, MGX, Silver Lake) paid ~$2.5 billion to the Treasury Department when the deal was completed in January and plan to make additional payments.
TikTok struck a deal with the investors for national security reasons as its parent company is China's ByteDance, and the U.S. government was heavily involved in the transaction process, with the Vice President leading the process.
Nevertheless, the transaction fee, amounting to 70% of TikTok's enterprise value ($14 billion), is considered unprecedentedly high.
