About the establishment of the museum
BrochureThis location is one of the five more liked places by foreigners in Korea, and the entrance is free. This 3-floor building consists of many different exhibition halls about the history of Korea under different themes: Memorial Hall, War History, Korean War, Expeditionary Forces, ROK Armed Forces, and Large Equipment, plus the outside exhibition area.
This museum was opened in 1994 to remember the Korean War (1950-1953) and to honor military veterans and victims of the wars which led to the modern nation-state. The museum also aims to educate future generations by collecting, preserving, and displaying various historical relics and records related to the country's many wars fought from a South Korean perspective. It has six separate exhibition halls, as well as a combat experience room, a screening room, and an outdoor exhibition area with memorial statues. The first floor depicts the history of warfare from prehistoric times to the Korean War.
What is interesting to see?
With around 13,000 collected items, the museum describes well all the past events with each item explained. The flags around the building represent the countries that had helped Korea during the Korean War. About the items, we can distinguish from prehistoric weapons to recent ones, from Korean and Japanese weapons to European weapons. You can also admire various items such as diaries, tanks, warships, warplanes, weapons, uniforms depending on the era, and many more. You will also get to know more about the heroes and the most important leaders of Korea's history.
The more you walk, the more you will revive Korea's history!
What's there more to do?
On the third floor, there is a combat experience room for the courageous ones where, thanks to special effects which were used to recreate a life-or-death situation on the battlefield, you have the opportunity to experience the feeling of war. There is also a large garden area with an artificial waterfall and a lake where tourists can picnic while taking in the gorgeous scenery.
