The Wisdom That Formed the Heavens
시편 136편 5절 : 지혜로 하늘을 지으신 이에게 감사하라. 그의 인자하심이 영원함이로다.
시편 기자는 하나님께서 힘이 아닌 지혜로 하늘을 지으셨다고 고백합니다. 이는 하나님의 창조가 우연이나 충동의 산물이 아니라 철저한 질서와 목적, 깊은 의도에 따라 이루어진 일이라는 신앙의 고백입니다. 하늘의 움직임, 별들의 거리, 대기와 물의 균형, 계절의 순환 등우리가 살아가는 세계는 모두 하나님의 치밀한 지혜로 빚어진 질서 위에 놓여 있습니다.
그리고 시편 기자는 그 하나님께 감사하라고 말합니다. 이 감사는 하나님과 인간 사이의 관계에서 비롯된 응답입니다. 하나님의 창조가 세계의 구조를 세운 행위가 아니라 인간과의 만남과 교제를 위한 목적지를 향한 첫걸음이었다는 것을 시편 기자는 이해한 것 같습니다.
시편 8편 5절은 이렇게 전합니다. “주께서 사람을 하나님보다 조금 못하게 하시고, 영화와 존귀로 관을 씌우셨나이다.” 하나님이 지으신 모든 피조물 가운데 그분의 형상을 담은 존재는 오직 사람뿐입니다. 하늘의 질서보다 더 섬세한 자유, 별보다 더 깊은 내면, 계절보다 더 복잡한 감정과 의지를 품은 인간. 우리가 하나님의 지혜가 빚어낸 가장 깊고 복된 결정체입니다.
그러므로 하나님께서 우리를 위해 펼치신 창조와, 생명과 지혜로 이어지는 그 길을 바라보며 감사하는 것, 그것은 우리가 할 수 있는 가장 자연스럽고 마땅한 반응일 것입니다.
우리가 하늘을 올려다보며 그 신비와 깊이에 경탄할 때 잊지 말아야 할 사실이 하나 있습니다. 하나님의 지혜는 하늘 너머가 아니라 바로 우리 안에 심겨져 있다는 것입니다.
하늘을 지으신 하나님의 지혜는 사람을 통해 가장 깊고 따뜻한 열매를 맺습니다. 그리고 하나님은 오늘도 그 열매를 맺을 한 사람 한 사람을 이름으로 부르고 계십니다.
Psalm 136:5 : Give thanks to him who by understanding made the heavens, for his steadfast love endures forever.
The psalmist confesses that God created the heavens not by sheer force, but by wisdom. This is a declaration of faith that creation was not the result of chance or impulse, but the work of careful order, clear purpose, and deep intention. The movements of the sky, the distance of the stars, the balance of air and water, the turning of the seasons, all that sustains our world rests on the precise wisdom of God.
And so the psalmist calls us to give thanks. Gratitude is our response to the relationship God initiates with us. Creation was never simply about establishing the structure of the universe; it was the first step toward a destination, communion and fellowship with humanity.
Psalm 8:5 echoes this truth: “You have made them a little lower than God and crowned them with glory and honor.” Among all that God has made, only humanity bears His image. More delicate than the order of the heavens, deeper than the stars, more intricate than the seasons, we carry freedom, will, emotion, and spirit, woven into us by divine wisdom. We are the most intimate and blessed expression of His creation.
Therefore, to give thanks as we look upon the heavens, to recognize in creation the wisdom that leads to life and relationship with God, this is not only fitting but the most natural response of those who belong to Him.
And when we marvel at the heavens, at their mystery and depth, there is one truth we must not forget: God’s wisdom is not only beyond the sky, it is planted within us.
The wisdom that fashioned the heavens bears its richest and most tender fruit in human lives. And today, God still calls each of us by name, inviting us to bear that fruit of wisdom in the world.
