Once upon a time, there was a King named George who lived in a small castle.
킹 조지는 항상 아침에 산책을 하러 궁전 밖으로 나갔어요.
Every morning, King George left his castle to go for a walk.
산책을 마치면 킹 조지는 다시 궁전으로 돌아왔어요.
When King George finished his stroll, he came back to his castle.
킹 조지는 신하들과 마주치는 것을 피했어요.
King George avoided running into his subjects.
킹 조지는 신하들과 정책을 의논하는 대신 항상 궁전 여기저기를 돌아다녔어요.
King George always wandered around the castle instead of discussing politics with his subjects. 신하들이 결정을 내려달라고 킹 조지에게 가면 킹 조지는 달아나 버렸어요.
Every time his subjects came to ask him to make a decisdion, King George would run away from them.
그러면 불쌍한 신하들은 킹 조지가 다시 돌아올 때까지 기다려야 했어요.
Then his poor subjects had to wait until King George would return.
한참을 기다린 후에 신하들이 킹 조지에게 다가가면 킹 조지는 " 내일 다시 말해다오!"라고 재빨리 말한 후 달아나 버렸어요.
When his subjects approached King George after waiting for him patiently, King George would quickly say, "Tell me about it again tomorrow!" then he walked away.
킹 조지는 뭔가를 결정하는 것이 너무 싫었어요.
King George hated making decisions.
그래서 큰 일이건 작은 일이건 아무 결정도 내리지 못했어요.
So he couldn't make any decisions no matter how big or small the matters were.
심지어 그날 무엇을 먹고 싶은지도 요리사에게 미리 말을 해 주지 않았어요.
He wouldn't even decide what to eat day so wouldn't let his cook know what to cook for him.
어느날 킹 조지는 점심 시간 바로 직전에 요리사를 불러, "당장 순한 돼지고기로 스테이크를 만들어 와!"라고 명령했어요.
One day, King George called in his cook right before lunch time and commanded, "Bring me a tender pork steak right away!"
순한 돼지고기가 다 떨어져 요리사는 순한 양고기로 대신 스테이크를 만들었지만 킹 조지에게 진실을 말했다간 목숨이 달아날까 두려워서 사실대로 말하지 못했어요.
King George's cook ran out of tender pork steaks so he made a tender lamb steak instead. However, King George's cook couldn't tell his king the truth becasue he was afraid that he might get killed.
요리사는 떨리는 마음으로 순한 양고기 스테이크를 킹 조지에게 바쳤어요.
Anxiously, King George's cook brought a tender lamb steak to King George.
킹 조지는 스테이크를 한 입 베어 먹은 후에 자신이 기대하던 순한 돼지고기 스테이크 맛이 나지 않자 화가 났어요.
After taking a bite of a tender lamb steak, King George was furious because it tasted different from what he expected.
킹 조지는 요리사가 요리를 못해서 맛이 다르다고 생각하고 요리사를 궁전 밖으로 내쫓아 요리를 하는 대신 양을 돌보게 했어요.
King George thought his cook was terrible at cooking and kicked him out of his castle to have him tend sheep instead.
그리고 양치기 소년에게 대신 요리를 맡겼어요.
And King George ordered his shepherd to be his new cook.
그동안 요리만 해온 요리사는 양을 돌 볼 줄 몰랐어요.
King George's cook did not know how to tend sheep because all he knew was how to cook.
양치기가 된 요리사는 매일 양을 한 마리씩 잃어 버렸지만 양이 없어진 것도 몰랐어요.
The cook turned shepherd lost a sheep everyday but he didn't even notice his sheep was gone.
반면 요리사가 된 양치기는 요리를 할 줄도 모르고 요리에 흥미도 없었어요.
By the way, King George's new cook neither knew how to cook nor enjoyed cooking.
매일 왕이 주문하는 요리를 하기가 너무 싫어서 궁전에서 도망치고 싶었어요.
Everyday, King George's new cook thought of running away from the castle because he hated cooking for his king.
어느 날 오후 요리사가 된 양치기는 샐러드 만들 야채를 구하려고 텃밭에 갔어요.
One day the shepherd turned cook went to a vegetable garden to get ingredients to make some salad.
요리사가 된 양치기는 그곳에서 양치기가 된 요리사가 잃어버린 양을 만났어요.
There he found a sheep that the cook turned shepherd lost.
자신이 돌보던 양을 만나서 요리사가 된 양치기는 너무 기뻤어요.
King George's new cook was very happy to be reunited with one of his sheep.
요리사가 된 양치기는 길 잃은 양과 함께 양치기가 된 요리사를 찾아 갔어요.
King George's new cook took the sheep he found to the cook turned shepherd.
양치기가 된 요리사는 요리사가 된 양치기를 반갑게 맞아 주었어요.
The cook turned shepherd gave a warm welcome to the sheperd turned cook.
둘은 그간 자신들의 삶이 얼마나 고단 했는지에 대해 한참 동안 이야기를 나누었어요.
The two talked about troubles they went through after receiving new assignments from King George for quite a while.
그 둘은 양들을 모두 데리고 킹 조지가 다스리지 않는 곳으로 떠나기로 결심했어요.
The two decided to leave their land and go to a new land outside of King George's reach.
둘은 며칠 밤낮을 걸어서 새 땅에 당도했어요.
The two walked for a few days and nights and finally arrived at a new land.
그곳에 정착한 후 양치기는 다시 양을 치고 요리사는 다시 요리를 하면서 각각 행복하게 살았답니다.
There the shepherd enjoyed tending sheep again and the cook enjoyed cooking again. The two lived happily ever after respectively.
