絵画におけるその実在系は，Lacanの美術理論（Lacanの「解釈の四方位」）でわからない仮定とその対象の主体を疎外させる欲望の原因をいう。
ラカンの実在は抑圧された無意識から明らかになったもので、「実在系は人間に知られず、ただ仮定できるだけだ。(É=Jacques Marie Émile Lacan, Écrits, Seuil, 1977, 137)”
これは現実で意味として現れた実在とは違うものだ。 実在系における欲望は、実在と出会うために主体の不十分さからオブジェɑを示そうとする。
すなわち、主体を構成するためにオブジェを表した欲望と打者間の幻影を主体に結合するのだ。 ここで他者の欲望を通じたオブジェへの接近は、対象から分離されたオブジェɑの欠乏した主体形状を可逆的な光で作った陰影構造としての欲望が含まれているため、時間性による可逆的光の陰影でオブジェを構成して接近する。
