문 대통령은 "순항미사일도 성공했는데 이것은 북한의 그것보다 속도가 훨씬 빠르다는 의미가 있다"며 "SLBM성공에 가려서 다른 전략무기 성공 의미가 국민께 다 전달되지 못한 아쉬움도 있으니 전문가들이 적극적으로 나서서 홍보함으로써 국민께서 자부심과 자신감을 갖도록 해 주기를 바란다"고 청와대 참모회의에서 지난달 16일 지시한 것으로 박수현 소통수석이 2일 공개했다.

박 수석은 이어 "문재인 대통령이 트럼프 대통령에게 한국과 미국이 대응 미사일을 발사해야 한다고 제안하고 실제로 동해안에서 대응 미사일들을 발사하도록 지시하는 모습을 보면서 역대 어느 대통령보다 굳건한 안보의식과 국가관의 소유자라고 생각했다"며 "문 대통령은 이어진 북한의 도발에 대해 우리 전투기를 출격시켜 폭격 위력 시위로 북한에 강력한 경고를 보내는 단호함을 보여주기도 했다"고 SNS를 통해 밝혔다.
