스텔스오미크론 검출률이 41.4%로 전주 26.3% 대비 15.1%p 증가하며 방역당국이 ‘정점 연장’을 21일 밝혔다.

정은경 방대본 본부장(질병관리청장)은 "전파 시키는 세대기가 0.5일 정도로 짧기 때문에 전파 위험이 있어 규모나 정점에 일부 영향을 줄 수 있다"며 "다만 우리나라는 오미크론 유행 이후 BA.2(스텔스 오미크론)의 재유행이 진행되는 게 아니라 현 상황에서 점유율이 변경되고 있어 같이 유행에 영향 줄 수 있다고 본다"고 밝혔다.
덴마크는 15일 BA.2가 오미크론을 넘어 우세종이 됐고 전문가들은 BA.2의 전염력이 기존 오미크론보다 1.5배 높게 본다고 CNBC가 보도했다.

로렌스 영 워릭대 교수는 "BA.2가 BA.1(기존 오미크론)보다 전염력이 높은 것이 분명하고, 더구나 방역 완화와 면역 저하(백신접종 후 시간 경과)가 맞물려 지금의 감염 유행이 초래된 것"이라고 CNBC에 말했다.

신규 확진자 수는 20일(0시 기준) 20만9천169명으로, 1주 전인 지난 14일의 30만9천779명보다 10만610명 적고 2주 전인 7일의 21만706명보다 1천537명 감소했고, 16일에 61만1천명의 최고치를 보였다.
