LG솔루션과 혼다의 미국 배터리공장 합자에 일본 언론은 ‘혼다 전용’으로 보도했고, 한국 언론은 ‘8곳 공급’으로 밝혔다.
‘조선일보’는 <LG엔솔, 혼다 손잡고 5조 투자… 미국에 車배터리 공장 짓는다>에서 “생산된 배터리는 혼다와 아큐라(혼다의 프리미엄 브랜드) 전기차 모델에 공급된다. (중략) 혼다가 파나소닉, 소니 같은 일본 배터리 업체가 아닌 LG에너지 솔루션을 미국 진출 파트너로 선택한 것을 두고 한국 배터리의 기술력과 품질을 인정받은 결과라는 평가가 나온다. LG에너지솔루션은 이번 혼다와 합작으로 미국 제너럴모터스(GM)를 포함한 글로벌 톱 10 완성차 업체 가운데 8곳에 배터리를 공급하게 됐다. LG에너지솔루션은 북미에서 단독 공장 외에 GM 및 스텔란티스와 합작 공장을 추진하고 있다”고 29일 보도했다.
‘요미우리’는 <혼다, 미국 최초의 EV 배터리 공장 건설 LG에너지코리아와 협업>에서 “건설은 2023년 시작 2025년 대량 생산 예정으로, 연간 최대 생산 능력은 약 40GWh로 일반 EV 700,000~800,000대 차량에 해당한다. 전체 제품은 북미의 혼다 차량에 공급된다”고 29일 보도했다.
월스크리트저널은 30일 <혼다, LG 에너지 계획 미국에 4.4억 달러 EV배터리 공장> 제목으로 “도쿄에 본사를 둔 혼다와 한국의 LG에너지는 미국에서 새로운 공장 계획하는 자동차 제조업체와 배터리 공급 업체 간의 합작 투자 목록에 합류한다”며 “혼다의 자동차 주력 시설이 있는 마리스빌의 오하이오주에 공장”이라고 보도했다.
‘조선일보’ 기사는 “LG에너지솔루션이 세계 7대 완성차 업체인 일본 혼다와 함께 미국에 전기차용 배터리 공장을 건설한다”로 시작했다.
‘요미우리’ 기사는 “혼다는 지난 6월 29일 한국의 주요 배터리 제조업체인 LG에너지솔루션과 공동으로 미국에 전기자동차(EV)용 새로운 배터리 공장 건설할 것이라고 발표했다”며 “두 회사는 올해 말까지 미국에 합작투자 설립 예정이다. LG에너지가 51 % 지분 보유하고 혼다는 49 % 지분 보유하고 있다”고 썼다.
‘매일경제’는 “북미에서 20조원 이상을 투자할 계획인 LG에너지솔루션은 이번 합작을 통해 북미지역에 일곱 번째 생산 거점을 구축하게 됐다. LG에너지솔루션은 GM과 합작법인 '얼티엄셀즈'를 설립하고 미국 오하이오주 테네시주 미시간주에 3개 공장을 건설하고 있다. 또한 스텔란티스와 협력해 캐나다 온타리오주에 45GWh 규모 합작공장을 세울 예정이다. 미국 미시간주에서는 단독 공장을 증설하며 애리조나주 공장 건설도 검토하고 있다”고 보도했다.
‘닛케이’는 29일 “혼다는 LG에너지솔루션과 합작회사 설립해 혼다의 주력 공장이 있는 미국 오하이오주에서 리튬이온 전지 생산 계획을 추진한다”며 “혼다가 비용을 내고 전기자동차(EV) 전지 공장 추진 첫 사례가 된다. 혼다가 한국 기업과 손잡고 배터리의 안정적 확보 도모 양상이다”고 보도했다.
