김태효 안보1차장은 15일 오후 대통령실 브리핑에서 오는 18∼24일 진행되는 윤 대통령의 영국·미국·캐나다 순방 일정 소개에서 "유엔총회에서 한미정상회담과 한일정상회담을 하기로 합의해놓고 시간을 조율 중"이라 밝혔다.
대통령실 고위 관계자는 브리핑에서 "미국, 일본과는 양자회담을 하기로 일찌감치 서로 합의해놓고 일정을 조율 중"이라며 "빡빡한 일정 때문에 30분 남짓한 시간 동안 얼굴을 마주 보고 진행하는 회담이 될 것"이라고 밝혔다.
한일정상회담에 대해 고위 관계자는 "서로 이번에 만나는 것이 좋겠다고 흔쾌히 합의됐다"며 "어떤 이야기를 할지는 아직 정하지 않았다. 강제징용 등 현안은 한국이 자체적으로 프로세스를 진행하고 일본과도 내밀하게 의견을 주고받고 있기에 정상이 갑자기 만나서 체크할 필요도 없는 상태에서 만나게 됐다"고 말했다고 연합뉴스가 보도했다.
요미우리는 서울발 이날 기사에서 윤석열 대통령실의 한 관계자가 기자들에게 "기꺼이 합의에 도달할 수 있었다"며 행사 일정으로 인해 "약 30분 안에 직접 대면하는 것"이 될 것이라고 말했다고 15일 보도했다.
일본 언론들은 이날 하야시 외무장관이 뉴욕에서 한국 박진 외무장관과 회담을 갖기위한 합의가 이루어졌다고 보도했다.
대통령실 관계자는 이날 “윤 대통령은 18일 전용기를 타고 런던에 도착, 찰스 3세 주재 리셉션에 참석해 신임 국왕을 위로할 예정이며 여왕 시신이 안치된 웨스트민스터홀을 참배하는 일정도 잡고 있다”며 “다음날 웨스트민스터사원에서 엄수되는 엘리자베스 2세 장례식에 참석, 한국 정부와 국민을 대표해 고인에 대한 추모의 뜻을 전할 것”이라고 밝혔다.
윤 대통령의 9일 단독 대사관 빈소 조문에 이은 2차 장례식 조문에 대해 대통령실 관계자는 “영국 엘리자베스 2세 여왕 장례식장에 각 정상들이 사정에 따라 부부동반을 해 같이 가시는 나라도 있고 단독으로 오시는 나라도 있다"며 "영국의 입장에서 보나 고인을 추모를 하는 우리 입장에서 보나 부부가 함께 예의를 갖춰 추모의 뜻을 보내는 게 훨씬 의미가 있겠다 생각해 동행하시는 걸로 안다"고 ‘부부 동반 추모’를 이유로 밝혔다.
대통령실은 앞서 공지를 통해 "김 여사는 이번 순방 중 바이든 미국 대통령 초청 리셉션과 동포간담회 등 정상 부부 동반 외교 일정에 참석할 예정"이라며 "이밖의 여사의 일정은 현재 확정되지 않았다"라고 밝혔다.
