주미대사 경질 대사없이 국빈방문 한미정상회담, 공연 충돌 민주당은 ‘배제’

현직 주미대사가 한국에 와 있는 상황에서 대통령이 경질하고 미국주재 대사없이 미국을 국빈방문해 한미정상회담이 개최되는 초유의 사태에 대해 야당 민주당은 논평에서 이 부분은 배제했다.

윤석열 대통령은 차기 주미대사 임명에서 대통령 지명 후 미국의 아그레망(주재국 임명 동의)에 6주(42일) 정도 소요돼 다음달 26일 한미정상회담에서는 주미대사의 공석 상태 정상회담을 선택했다.

윤 대통령은 29일 김성한 안보보좌관이 ‘자진 사임’을 기자단에 배포한 직후 한국에 체류 중인 조태용 주미대사를 안보실장에 지명했고, 미국에 대사 경질 인사 교체에 대해 사전 통보 없이 진행된 상태다.

조 대사는 27일부터 열리는 재외공관장회의(31일까지)로 회의 참석 중인 상태에서 주미대사직을 상실했다.

권칠승 민주당 수석대변인은 29일 "한미 정상회담을 앞두고 안보실장, 외교비서관, 의전비서관이 모두 경질됐다"며 "잇따른 외교 참사에도 모르쇠로 버티던 사람들이 하루아침에 모두 경질됐다"고 말했다.

권 대변인은 이어 "표면적으로는 (미국) 국빈 만찬 공연을 둘러싼 혼선이 이유이지만 항간에는 김건희 여사 라인의 행정관들과 공무원 출신 비서관들의 충돌설, 김성한-김태효 알력설이 파다하다"며 "김건희 여사가 대통령의 순방일정에 배 놔라 감 놔라 하고 있다는 말인가? 대일 굴종외교로 경질을 요구받고 있는 대통령실 외교안보라인이 힘 싸움을 벌이고 있다는 말인가"라고 지적하며 외교안보에서 주미대사 공석 정상회담 상황을 제외했다.

‘동아일보’는 29일 "조 바이든 미 행정부가 윤 대통령의 국빈 방미 준비 과정에서 레이디가가·블랙핑크 등이 출연하는 '국빈 초청 특별 문화 프로그램'을 제안했는데 대통령실 외교안보라인 대응이 지연돼 한때 무산 위기에 처했고, 윤 대통령이 이를 다른 경로를 통해 뒤늦게 파악해 수습했다"고 ‘미 행정부’와 ‘외교안보라인’ 관계로 보도해, 백악관이나 주미대사관 이외 미국의 ‘특정 라인’과 윤 대통령간의 비공개 연결을 시사했다.

동아일보는 이어 <여권 고위 관계자는 “주미 한국대사관 등에서 미국 측 요청을 담아 대통령실로 5차례 이상 전보 등을 보낸 것으로 알고 있다”며 “그런데 대통령실에서 확답이 오지 않아 무산 위기에 처했던 것으로 안다”고 말했다. 이어 “윤 대통령이 다른 외교 채널을 통해 이 사실을 파악했던 것으로 안다”고 전했다>고 보도해, ‘주미대사관’이 사건의 주제로 거명됐고 조태용 대사는 한국 체류 중 책임에서 ‘배제’했다.

백악관에서 협업 공연이 사전 리허설과 복잡한 연출 과정을 거쳐 미국 여가수 레이디 가가의 ‘백악관 공연 확인’이 없는 상태에서 ‘한국 여성 그룹에 협업 섭외’ 주장은 국내용으로 보인다.
