A Good Day for the Wind to Blow
When the wind blows,
it is to sing of winter.
Whii—whoosh, whistling softly,
the wind sings winter into being.
It soothes the warm air, cools the lingering heat,
from Africa
to Alaska.
The winter wind spreads itself evenly across the world.
It calls children, huddled against the cold,
out of their homes to fly kites.
The cold wind blows in,
bringing a gentle tension into our hearts.
Cold yet pleasant wind chill,
mischievous blizzards—
all are tricks of the winter wind.
Never still, alive and moving,
the winter wind blows.
The sea begins to breathe more roughly,
the waves rise and show their majesty.
All of it is a festival of the winter wind.
And that wind is blowing now.
A winter wind that is cold,
but not unkind.
So do not avoid it.
Let us face the wind
that makes winter truly winter.
Have a cup of hot chocolate,
step onto the ice frozen hard and fast,
ride the winter wind
and savour the rhythm of the season.
