On a Bus at Dusk
I saw a purple sea,
the sky and the water washed in violet.
The sky at sunset is beyond belief—
lemon light meeting violet,
brightening the evening for a fleeting moment of beauty.
It boasts of nothing, yet it is so magnificent,
generous in spirit, open to everyone—
a glorious sight
even seen from a passing bus.
I scarcely dared to get off.
As we hurried past, I gathered it with my eyes,
a moment turning into eternity,
a fleeting instant that will never return.
Even taking a photograph felt a pity—
so I simply gazed and gazed
at that endless violet.
Sky and sea, without boundary,
colouring one another—
their light and shades sinking deep into my heart,
colours I could recall for a lifetime.
I saw a violet sky—
the heavens pouring through the open bus window,
lingering there, refusing to fade,
and tears slipped quietly down my cheeks.
How grateful life suddenly feels—
the violet sky and sea stirring my soul,
beautiful beyond measure,
until my heart overflows.
