혹시 오늘 하늘 한 번 보셨나요?

바쁘게 걷다 보면 발끝만 보게 되지, 머리 위 세상은 잊고 살 때가 많잖아요. 그런데 옆에서 걷는 강아지는 좀 다르더라고요. 길가에 핀 이름 모를 풀꽃 냄새를 맡느라 한참을 멈춰 서고, 가끔은 바람 냄새가 좋다는 듯 코를 킁킁거리며 먼 하늘을 봐요.

그럴 땐 저도 슬쩍 녀석을 따라 멈춰 서게 됩니다. 팽팽했던 목줄이 느슨해지는 그 짧은 순간, 묘한 자유가 느껴지거든요. 거창한 여행지가 아니어도, 그저 녀석과 나란히 서서 흐르는 구름을 보는 것만으로도 마음의 허기가 조금은 채워지는 기분이랄까요.

어쩌면 우리가 찾는 진짜 자유는 대단한 곳에 있는 게 아닐지도 몰라요. 지금 곁에 있는 존재와 함께 잠시 멈춰 서는 것, 그리고 아주 잠깐이라도 고개를 들어 고요한 하늘을 마주하는 것. 그거면 충분하지 않을까요?

Have you looked up at the sky at all today?

When we’re busy rushing from place to place, we tend to keep our eyes fixed on our feet, often forgetting the world right above our heads. But I’ve noticed that the dog walking beside me sees things differently. He’ll stop for ages just to sniff a nameless wildflower by the path, or tilt his head to catch a scent on the breeze, gazing at the distant sky.

In those moments, I find myself pausing right along with him. As the tension in the leash goes slack for a brief second, a strange sense of freedom washes over me. You don’t need a grand getaway; just standing side-by-side with him, watching the clouds drift by, somehow fills a void I didn't even know I had.

Maybe the true freedom we’re searching for isn't in some far-off place. Maybe it’s simply pausing with the one beside you and taking a moment to face the quiet sky. Perhaps that’s more than enough.
