The United States and Iran have reached a ceasefire agreement which key mediator Pakistan says is effective immediately. The agreement follows days of escalating tensions and sharp exchanges. For more, we have our correspondent Kim Jun-hong on the line. Jun-hong, tell us more.

The United States and Iran reached a ceasefire deal on Tuesday evening, hours after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to wipe out Iran's "entire civilization" unless it allowed safe passage for commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Taking to Truth Social just around ninety minutes before an 8 PM deadline, after which he said the U.S. would destroy Iranian bridges and energy infrastructure, Trump said that the agreement was "subject to the Islamic Republic of Iran agreeing to the COMPLETE, IMMEDIATE, and SAFE OPENING of the Strait of Hormuz."
----------------
Iran was quick to respond to Trump's ceasefire announcement, with the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi saying that Iran would "cease their defensive operation," and that "for a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible." According to The New York Times, Iran's national security council said Washington had accepted all ten points of its proposed peace terms.
----------------
The terms include Iran's control over shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, the withdrawal of U.S. combat troops from bases across the region, the easing of sanctions, and compensation for war damages. Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who was acting as a mediator between the U.S. and Iran, welcomed the agreement in a statement, adding that the ceasefire is effective immediately.
----------------
He also invited both countries to Pakistan's capital Islamabad on Friday for peace talks. Pakistan had previously urged Trump to extend the deadline by two weeks to give diplomacy more time. U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is set to hold a press conference at the Pentagon on Wednesday morning local time. That was the latest, back to you Eunji.
