South Korea's financial markets performed strongly on Wednesday morning following the ceasefire agreement in the Middle East. The South Korean won strengthened sharply against the U.S. dollar, trading in the 1,470 won range after spending most of the past two weeks in the 15-hundreds range. The geopolitical relief also sent domestic stocks surging.

The KOSPI spiked over 5-point-6 percent in early trading, climbing back above the 5,800-point mark and triggering buy-side sidecars on both the KOSPI and KOSDAQ. This comes as global oil markets plummeted in response to the ceasefire news. Both West Texas Intermediate and Brent crude futures crashed by over 14 percent, falling back well below 100 dollars a barrel.
