도서 요약
The book <K-Pop Idols Through the Looking-Glass of Literature and Philosophy> interprets the universal storytelling elements inside the songs of world-class K-pop idol groups represented by BTS and others. This new book of Sideways Publishing Company takes a deep look into the song lyrics of BTS, Wanna One, and TWICE, the three big groups of K-pop, through the lens of literature and philosophy. The book is a culmination of in-depth discussions and sparkling insights on 46 key topics of liberal arts on our lives and love, taking 46 Korean pop songs' lyrics as reference sources.
The lyrics of twelve songs released by BTS, eleven by TWICE and ten by Wanna One, are analyzed using humanities concepts such as growth and responsibility, beauty and salvation, and life, promise, and self-esteem. The book also studies songs by other top K-pop idol groups like IU, EXO, and Girl's Generation. The 46 keywords are grouped into four chapters: chapter one 'growth of a person'; chapter two 'love between lovers'; chapter three 'the world we live in together with others'; and chapter four 'the essence of the human being.'
Focusing around the above three idol groups, the book takes a comprehensive exploration of not only their song lyrics but their overall culture and narratives as well. There has been some study on the success factors of these musicians from an external viewpoint, and reviews on them at cultural, theoretical, and industrial approaches. However, seldom did we focus on their songs' storytelling and growth narrative, and tried to understand what draws the public to them from a 'liberal arts/humanities' perspective. This book penetrates inside the idol groups using the tools of philosophy and literature of all ages and countries. The writer points out how these songs entail the brilliant achievements of humanities 'already' accumulated throughout the history of humankind.
