인도, 네팔을 지나 티베트의 수도 라사까지 갔던 적이 있다. 버스로 국경을 건너, 지프차로 바꿔 타고 굽이굽이 칼같이 깎인 절벽을 지나는 도로를 따라, 폭우가 폭포가 되어버린 산을 넘었고, 끝이 보이지 않는 평야를 가로질렀다. 어떻게 이런 곳이 있는지 상상도 못 한 광경을 여러 번 보았다. 요즘 다시 해외여행을 가는 사람이 많아졌는데, 거기가 거기 같아진 면도 없지 않아 있다. 하지만 유명 관광지를 조금만 벗어나면 딴 세상에 온듯한 경험을 선사하는 곳은 아직 세상에 많이 있을 것이다.
I once went all the way from India, Nepal to Lhasa, the capital city of #Tibet . I passed the border on a bus, changed to a jeep, rode it past steep edges of a mountain, where rainfall fell over the narrow road like a waterfall, then reached the wide plains where the earth seemed to stretch on forever. People have restarted overseas travel again after Covid nowadays. Some may say there’s less and less differences between the countries they visit. But if you move just a little away from tourist spots, you’ll find there are still fascinating places around the world that will awe you.
