아직도 빈곤층 비율이 전체의 20%를 넘는 인도에선, 유독 유명관광지 같은 곳에서 이런 안쓰러운 모습을 자주 볼 수 있었다. 솔직히 사진 찍기도 미안해서 머뭇거리다가 몇 분이 지나도 꿈쩍하지 않길래 셔터를 누르고 말았다. 왠지 이런 모습을 잊지 말아야겠다는 생각도 들었기 때문이다. 화려한 세상의 모습에도 눈길이 가지만 마음 아파지는 모습도 담담히 바라보는 게 #작가의의무 이지 않을까.
In a country where the poverty rate is still above 20% of the entire population, such sad sights were actually more common at famous tourist spots in India. I felt sorry even to take this photo so I waited for her to get up, but she didn’t seem to move after several minutes so I pressed the shutter. I thought to myself that I should remember this image as well. We may naturally gravitate towards glamorous sights but perhaps it is part of a #writersjob to calmly gaze at the sorrows in the world also.
