나에게 닿는 길
단조로운 기계음 대신
세상이 발전해도 너무 발전한 덕에 우리는 떨어져 있어도 문자, 메신저, 영상통화, 개인 SNS 채널 등을 통해 쉽게 닿을 수 있다. 결국 가장 최초의 발명품인 전화기야말로 이 모든 서비스의 시초라 정의 내릴 수 있을 텐데 그 이유라 함은 과학적인 역사도 있겠다만, 그리우면 그립다고 목소리를 부르고, 슬픔에 사무칠 땐 귀 기울여달라고 매달리고, 사랑하면 사랑한다고 속삭이느라 밤낮없이 붙들고 있는 게 통화라는 행위니까.
나의 경우 스무 살 이후 컬러링을 설정했는데 당시 아침이건, 오후 건, 저녁이건, 밤이건, 새벽이건, 긴 거리를 이동하게 되거나 짧은 산책을 하거나 혼밥을 하는 등 시간의 틈만 생긴다 하면 내리 통화를 하던 친구가 있다. 친구는 전화를 받자마자 줄곧 나의 컬러링을 따라 부르곤 했는데, 내가 전화를 받기 전까지 그가 듣게 될 음악이 지겨워지지 않도록 일정 기간을 두고 변경하기 시작했다.
단조로운 기계음을 대신해 내가 좋아하는, 특히 사랑을 담은 음악으로 설정한 통신 부가 서비스를 통해 발신자가 1분 남짓 한 시간을 조금이나마 덜 지루하게 보낼 수 있다면 한 달에 1,000~1,500원 정도는 흔쾌히 지불할 수 있는 경제적 능력을 지닌 허세 가득한 친구가 되고 싶었던 이유도 있다. 그렇게 설정했던 음악들을 아카이빙 해본다.
