Chapter 3. A caucus-race and a long tale
1. draggle : make something dirty 더럽히다 특히 진흙이나 진탕을 질질끌고 다니며 더럽히다.
They were indeed a queer -looking party that assembled on the bank - the birds with draggled feathers, the animals with their fur clining close to them.
2. consultation ; 협의, 회담
The first question of course was, how to get dry again : they had a consultation about this, and after a few minues it seemed quite natural to Alice to find herself talking familiarly with them, as if she had known them all her life. 첫번째 의문은 어떻게 몸을 말릴지였다. 그들은 이 문제에 대해 회담을 열고 몇분 후 앨리스는 이들과 친숙하게 말하고 있는 자신이 참 자연스러워 보였다.
3. sulky : 부루퉁한, 샐쭉한
Indeed, she had quite a long argument with the Lory, who at last turned sulky and would only say, I am older than you, and must know better ; and this Alice would not allow without knowing how old it was, and as the Lory positively refused to tell its age, there was no more to be said. 사실 앨리스는 로리와 긴 논쟁을 벌였는데, 로리는 결국 샐쭉해지더니만 '내가 나이가 많으니 내가 더 잘 알테지" 라고 말하는 것이었다. 이에 앨리스는 로리가 얼마나 나이가 들었는지 모르고는 용납할 수 없었고, 로리가 자신이 몇살인지 말할 수 없다고 하자, 논쟁은 더 할 필요가 없어졌다.
4. Lory : 빛깔이 선명한 앵무샛과의 새

8. usurpation : 강탈, 권리를 빼앗는것
Willian the Conqueror, whose cause was favored by the Pope, was soon submitted to by the English, who wanted leaders, and had been of late much accustomed to usurpation and conquest. 정복자 윌리엄의 정복의 이유는 교황의 친애를 받았고 곧, 지배자를 원했던 영국인들에 의해 복종되었다 ( 영국인들을 복속시켰다) 그리고 그는 얼마전까지 강탈과 정복에 익숙했었다.
9. Earl : 백작

11. patriotic : 애국자의
12. Archbishop : 대주교
13. conduct : 행동, 품행
14. insolence : 건방짐, 오만함

And the Eaglet bent down its head to hide a smile : some of the other birds tittered audibly. 새끼 독소리는 고개를 숙이고 웃음을 참았다. 몇몇 다른 새들은 소리가 들리도록 킥킥댔다.

Alice thought the whole thing very absurd, but they all looked so grave that she did not dare to laugh; and as she could not think of anything to say, she simply bowed and took the thimble, looking as solemn as she could. 앨리스는 모든 것이 이상하다고 생각했지만, 그들이 너무심각해서 감히 웃지도 못했다. 그리고 그녀가 할말이 생각나지 않았을때 그녀는 그냥 간단히 머리숙여 인사하고 골무를 집어들었다. 그것도 할수 있는 한 최대한 엄숙하게.

25. denial : 부정, 거부

27. condemn ~ to ~ : ~에게 ~의 선고를 내리다
Fury said to a mouse that he met in the house . 복수의 여신이 집앞에서 만난 쥐에게 말했다 Let us both go to law. I will prosecute you. 우리 둘다 법정으로 가겠소, 난 너를 고소하는거다. I'll take no denial. 거부하지 않겠어..

29. bend : 굽다. 굽은 곳
30. knot : 매듭 : 본문에서는 not을 knot로 앨리스가 잘못들음
31. growl : 으르릉거리다.
32. call after~ : ~를 뒤쫓아오면서 부르다.
33. hold one's mouth : 말을 참아라. 입다무세요
34, snappish : 무뚝뚝한, 화를 잘내는, 퉁명스러운

Come away, my dears ! It's high time you were all in bed !' On various pretexts they all moved off, and Alice was soon left alone.
And here poor Alice began to cry again, for she felt very lonely and low-spirited. 그리고 불쌍한 앨리스는 다시 울기 시작했다. 그건 그녀가 외롭고 우울해서 였다.
