[Essay 17] Gratitude

and Satisfaction

Many people say that humans never can be satisfied enough until they die, which I don't agree much, since I am at least undermy current situation/status. Someone may raise an objection to what I say, being skeptical of how long the satisfaction that I have now can last. As nobody knows the future, I can't answer that. Things are changing, as they have been for the entire time. There's no exception at all.

I believe, however, it should last as long as gratitude is alive on my mind. To retain gratitude is unexpectedly difficult, meaning everyone knows how grateful being healthy is but in fact, they forget very easily as well, especially at some point where we confront lots of adversities from time to time. They are so stressful that the gratitude that we once had can't stand anymore; it is replaced with bad emotions immediately in the moment. As a consequence, appreciation about life itself is left behind depression from them.

Then how can we sustain gratitude for a long time? Writing a journal is the best I believe and most writers on Brunch also know well how powerful it is. While we are writing, our brain tries to organize memory to structure and/or convey a message that we want to say. In the process, we often recognize that we are missing something precious and it makes us feel fortunate and become thankful about it. That's the point where gratitude that is almost forgotten revives!

Let me example myself here: I moved into a new place last week and noticed that I paid so much unnecessarily from the real estate agent. With being full of fury and frustration, I couldn't feel happy with what I was possessing, which is actually pretty good enough for me. Although the situation is not that bad, it just somewhat leads me to worry and imagine many bad scnearios either consciously or unconsciously. But while writing here, I am now looking back how many things I've gotten and how priceless they are. The missing link settles me down.

This platform isn't Youtube on which the video makers need subscribers as many as possible so that can gain a profit enormously. Writers here are doing for themselves and reflecting their life so far. It's a kind of a pure joy for me. I don't think people dream to be rich by writing on Brunch. It's literally a writing place for writing lovers. Hope everyone here finds their own gratitude.
