"I don't want John and everyone else knowing that I'm getting married a second time."
"Just you and I? Without any announcement to anybody?"
"Yes, What is important is only us."
Alexander couldn't help remembering when he had discussed marriage with Violet. What Violet wanted was, ‘The most luxurious wedding march in the world’. She should be the most beautiful bride, with many gems adorning her, a dazzling tiara on her head, a wedding dress made by an eminent designer, and a honeymoon in an isolated villa on some peaceful island in the South Pacific.
All that, and a shiny new married life complete with a huge house in a big city. That was too much for him, and he could only satisfy her desires in his imagination. He had said to her he couldn't and wouldn't, but Violet didn't listen to him. She had always regarded Alexander as a never-drying well of money. He laughed, reminded of all the nonsense with Violet back then. But his face soon straightened up as he remembered their conversation's seriousness.
"I want to do anything I can do for you. We can travel somewhere very splendid instead of a wedding march, or I can get you a big diamond."
Cynthia's rigid face was relieved.
"Sorry, you might've expected a wedding march, since this would be your first time being married."
"No worries here, it's enough that I've attended hundreds of weddings. I don't mind doing things a little different. Moreover, brides are more concerned with the wedding march than the groom. It's useless if the bride doesn't want the ceremony."
Alexander winked to her. She smiled again.
Most of their coworkers, including John, already knew that Cynthia and Alexander were living together. So another announcement of their union should not be needed.
They stayed that night in a hotel they reserved for themselves. Alexander went into her, and she received him with satisfied moans. He would not let her be lonely ever again, and neither would she. Their relationship wasn't only one of romance, but it was friendship mixed with love and faithfulness.
One day, Ed called Alexander. Alexander was conflicted as to whether he wanted to answer him or not, but picked up his phone hesitantly.
"Hello?"
"Hi, Alex, can we talk a bit tonight? I want to buy you drink."
"Hey, what's up?"
