나는

이법

세상, 우주의 이법을 깨우친 이.

진리의 등대를 세우듯

어둠 속에 불을 밝혀

다시 길 잃지 않게 하리라.

어떤 신통방통한 체험이라도

이법의 등불에 비추어

거듭 곱씹어 볼 때

비로소 그 진가가 드러난다.

환상적이거나

기적처럼 보이는 체험일수록

사람은 쉽게 속는 법.

실체나 진리로 붙잡지 말라.

남이 보여준 것이든

내가 직접 겪은 것이든

잠시 스쳐가는 즐길 거리로

삼으면 족하리라.

길 가는 이가

스쳐 지나가는

기이하고 독특한 풍경에 매혹되어

그 자리에 머문다면,

어찌 진공의 묘경에

다다를 수 있겠는가.

오감을 통해 느껴지고

눈에 보이는 모든 것,

그로부터 피어나는

온갖 생각과 무의식은

나라는 영사기가 비추는

한 편의 영화요,

하룻밤 꿈꾸는

환영과 같도다.

대상의 빛 파장과

뇌의 전기신호가

부딪혀 만들어낸

위대한 합작품.

그 안에는

참으로 신비로운 것,

황당한 이미지와

SF 같은 장면들,

추상적 관념과 허상도

가득하도다.

거기에

나의 욕심과 무지,

집착심이 달라붙으면

망상과 우상이 되어

나와 타인을

헛개비의 삶으로

몰아넣을 뿐.

삶의 이법은

실상을 밝히는

진리의 등불과 같아

켜지는 순간,

그림자와 허상은

낙엽처럼 떨어져 나간다.

그때 삶은 가벼워지고,

허상이 아닌

삶 그 자체를

참으로 살아가는

진인(眞人)으로 거듭난다.

가상과 허상은

즐기되 집착하지 말지어다.

모든 관념은 가상이니,

이것이

삶의 기본 이법 중 하나.

아직 삶을

한 편의 영화처럼

즐기고 있지 못하면,

그대는 아직

영화를 삶으로 착각하고

있다 해도

틀리지 않으리라.

Who Am I? (66)

I am

The Law.

One who awakens to the law

of the world, of the cosmos.

Like raising a lighthouse of truth,

I light a flame in the dark,

so the way is never lost again.

No matter how wondrous the experience may seem,

only when held up

to the lamp of the Law,

and chewed over again and again,

does its true worth finally appear.

The more fantastical,

the more it resembles a miracle,

the more easily one is deceived.

Do not clutch it as substance or truth.

Whether shown by another,

or witnessed by my own eyes,

let it pass as a fleeting amusement,

and that is enough.

If a traveler

is enchanted by a strange and singular sight

glimpsed along the road,

and lingers there,

how could one ever reach

the subtle realm of true emptiness.

All that is felt through the five senses,

all that the eyes can see,

and every thought and unconscious image

that blooms from them,

is but a film projected

by the projector called “me,”

a single movie,

a dream dreamed for one night.

The light waves of objects,

colliding with the brain’s electric signals,

give birth to

this magnificent collaboration.

Within it reside

genuine mysteries,

absurd images,

scenes like science fiction,

abstract ideas and illusions,

in endless abundance.

When my greed and ignorance,

my clinging mind,

attach themselves,

they harden into delusion and idols,

driving both myself and others

into the life of a scarecrow,

hollow and misled.

The Law of life

is like a lamp of truth

that illuminates reality.

The moment it is lit,

shadows and illusions

fall away like autumn leaves.

Then life grows light,

and one is reborn,

not as a chaser of illusions,

but as one who truly lives life itself,

a true person.

Enjoy the virtual and the illusory,

but do not cling.

All concepts are virtual—

this, too,

is one of the fundamental laws of life.

If you are not yet able

to enjoy life

as though it were a film,

then it would not be wrong to say

that you are still mistaking

the movie

for life itself.
